London based (since 2004), a self-taught photographer, Jan Masny started his photographic practice in the photographic studio of Bogdan Axman. His main focus is a creative approach to every assignment in fashion and advertising in the studio or outdoor. His photographs are minimal with the aim of specifically emphasizing their content. He is fascinated by polarities and contrasts of meaning, and his ability to extract often unexpected aspects from his subjects gives a freshness and depth to his work.

The Photographer

“I’m really all about trying to keep my photography as simple as possible without messing around with any digital effects. I’m old school. I adore Richard Avedon’s work. I love the way that he was able to capture amazing movements of models without resorting to using autofocus or automatic cameras in sparse lighting… “

In this post, I’ve concentrated on his way of presenting the movement, but Jan Masny’s portfolio is much more diverse. Check his personal website to see other examples of Jan’s work.
Clean And Crispy
Stunning, monochromatic photographs by Jan Masny.
I like the way he presents the movement.
Smooth and elegant, no unnecessary smudges.
His photographs are clear and crisp.
None of those 100 mph kinds of effects.
