Miysis Studio, as a tribute to Notre Dame de Paris, has proposed a reconstruction of the structure of the destroyed roof with heavy use of rather unusual, for this kind of project, material – glass. They want to keep the changes to the silhouette of the building to a minimum by incorporating the rhythm and position of the original frame and then using stained glass instead of traditional roofing materials.

3D designers want to find…
“the right balance between history and future.”
Miysis team proposes rebuilding the spire, which was designed by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century, as a replica of the one that was lost. So, the spire would be reconstructed, but the original 13th-century roof would be replaced with a modern, constructed from a timber and steel frame.
Denis Stevens, CEO of Miysis Studio explained: “We propose to reconstruct the original spire while building a new glass roof, we also wanted to mix traditional wood and new materials to find the right balance between history and future.
I can’t escape the feeling that…
Something is missing.
Look at all that beautiful renderings. Attention to detail, use of texture, the way light is dropped on the scene – perfect. But, something is missing…
Great design and top of the line renderings, but…
I’m going to be a party pooper.
I understand that this is just an inspirational design and not a real project. The team of designers at Miysis made it perfectly clear that they have no intention of presenting this project as an official proposal to anyone involved in cathedral reconstruction but still, I think they should remember that design they have created, was created for a church. There’s nothing in these otherwise great renderings making me feel like I’m looking at part of a church.
So, now you know what is missing.
If I didn’t know that this is the roof of The Notre-Dame Cathedral, I would probably mistake it for a top of some well-designed office building created as shared space for employees to relax during lunchtime. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to knock this design down, on the contrary, I think Miysis did a spectacular job presenting their vision of new Cathedral. All I’m saying is that… Something Is Missing.
